About this Event

KAHALAOPUNA Event

Kahalaopuna is a celebrated figure in Hawaiian moʻolelo and the beloved princess of Mānoa Valley. Born to the wind god Kahaukani and the rain goddess Kauakuahine, her extraordinary, radiant beauty was said to bring forth a vibrant rainbow wherever she traveled. Passed down through generations, her journey reflects the intimate relationship between people, place, and the natural world, and still continues to be an important part of Mānoa's cultural identity today.

Come talk story with artist Riley Nakamura as he explores the story of Kahalaopuna through a live mural and moʻolelo. Reflecting Riley’s interpretation of this beloved figure, the work invites conversation about the many ways Kahalaopuna’s story has been remembered, shared, and visualized over time.
