About this Event
Join us for an engaging lecture with Professor Matthias Mahlmann of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights and the University of Zurich.
As democratic institutions come under pressure—both from within and without—this talk critically revisits the rise and allure of anti-democratic ideologies. What explains their contemporary charisma? How can we defend democracy not just intellectually but as a meaningful and attractive way of life?
Professor Mahlmann will explore the normative foundations of democracy, the relationship between human rights and democratic structures, and whether the project of democracy can—and must—be renewed in the face of skepticism.
This talk will be followed by a short Q&A.
