About this Event

Just Transition - Are we leaving people behind?

13th July 2024, Old School Hall, The Mansion

Our final Forum explores the meanings of a Just Transition through real-life examples. We will talk about the barriers of a Just Transition and this is an opportunity for participants to voice any personal concerns they have about the social changes that are encouraged in climate action plans, such as energy transitions away from fossil fuels, and the privilege it takes to be a part of it.

Together with the co-authors of Bristol’s Just Transition Declaration and Rona Hardie from Just Transition, we will explore what this future can look like, learn what actions it takes to get there and discover how we need to be considering a Just Transition and the benefits it can bring to our community.

Our Speakers:

Emma Geen (she/her) is a climate activist specialised in disability climate justice, and a co-author of the City of Bristol Just Transition Declaration.

Rona Hardie (she/her) is the Just Transition Lead at Transition Together, looking at ways to further embed Just Transition principles and practices into the Transition Movement in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Her background is in climate justice organising, and alongside Transition Together, she works at Tipping Point UK as a trainer and organiser on the Stop Rosebank campaign.

The local project representatives will be announced shortly.

Forum structure:

It is an opportunity to network with locally interested people, so welcome to those with and without prior experiences in this area.

About the Community Resilience Forum:

The Community Resilience Forum is a 3-part interactive space (over April, June and July 2024) where we welcome and encourage discussion, disagreement and debate about resilience research and practice. Topics will include Land Use, Nature Recovery, and Just Transition. Participants will include specialists/academics, residents, and local project practitioners.

Funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, distributed by Transition Together, has helped us to organise the Community Resilience Forums. Thanks to National Lottery players for making this possible. Look for more information about Transition Together at
