The first of our spring flower walks. A stunning new 15-16km/9mile route from Abinger Roughs to Wotton. Starting and ending at Gomshall.We are starting from a unique Vintage shop/coffee van yard, situated in the beautiful, and historical rural village of Gomshall, known for its many mills for the corn and weaving industry.
Some wonderful hill side trails leading to Abinger Roughs woodland copses, including 200 year old Scotts and Corsican Pine trees and along easy footpaths with stunning views of the North Downs Way Ridge.
Meet the unique Beech tree lovingly called ‘Witch’s Broom’ tree by locals before we head to the stunning Wotton St. Johns Church on a sloping hill-top with its many snow drops and some picturesque spring time views.
Possible detour to the Wotton Hatch for facilities, before we head back to some wonderful bridleways shared with many horse riders for its peaceful settings.
This is a great training hike for upcoming hiking challenges including the Surrey Three Peaks in April and May or Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge later in the year.
Difficulty: Moderate/some climbs/some muddy paths
Duration: 4.30-5h (plus possibly coffee at Alberts Coffee Van/pub visit to the Gomshall Mill
Bring: Own drinks / snacks / money for Pub
Facilities: Available at Vintage frog shop/ or Gomshall Mill Pub at start/end (possibley at Wotton Hatch Pub on extended route)
Dogs: Well-behaved dogs always welcome.
Parking: Gomshall Train station, off Station Road, GU5 9NU (free parking)
