Join violist Beatrice Slocumbe for an intimate Camden listening space where music and story unfold naturally through conversation.About this Event
Just For This Moment is a series of Music, Story & Community Listening
An intimate Camden Borough-based listening space where musicians share their journeys through conversation, memory and music.
Hosted by Amka Nzuri Melody Women as part of our grassroots community engagement programme.
This is a facilitated conversation where story leads, and any music shared emerges naturally in the moment — perhaps a phrase, a sound, or a gesture on the instrument, shaped by memory and feeling.
The session is held in a relaxed, seated semi-circle to support an intimate and reflective atmosphere. Listening is valued as participation, and there may be a few gentle opportunities towards the end for audience reflection.
This is a no-camera, no-phone, no-recording space, held to support presence, privacy and shared trust. Photographs may be taken outside at the end for those who wish to take part.
About the Series
Just For This Moment is part of the Amka Nzuri Melody Women community engagement programme, creating spaces for connection, visibility and shared listening.
Ticket donations support artist honorariums, volunteers, accessibility, and the continuation and growth of access to learning musical instruments.
Our work centres disabled Black women over 50, including those experiencing barriers related to long-term health conditions, neurodivergence, care responsibilities, isolation, experiences of harm, age related conditions, or mental wellbeing.
We are grounded in a social model of disability, we focus on removing barriers to participation whilst creating accessible, supportive culturally safe spaces for learning and connection.
About the Artist
Beatrice Slocumbe is a Black British violist from Islington London, currently studying on a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. Her work moves between classical performance, collaboration and multi-genre practice.
She is a member of Chineke! Orchestra, performing with them at the BBC Proms and in venues including the Concertgebouw, Royal Festival Hall and The O2, as well as in collaborations with artists such as Max Richter, Abel Selaocoe and Stormzy. She has also appeared on BBC Four and Netflix.
Alongside this, Beatrice is a member of the Woolf Quartet and has worked across a wide range of musical settings — from chamber music and studio recording at Abbey Road, Maida Vale and Metropolis Studios, to community-rooted performance as both principal and tutti viola with the Brixton Chamber Orchestra.
Her creative work extends beyond traditional performance when she was deputy mas band leader with GBA at Notting Hill Carnival where rhythm, collaboration and celebration have continued to contribute to her creative life.
Her interdisciplinary exploration of music and movement, and contribution to projects that centre identity and representation within classical music include her co-created Unapologetic as part of the Royal Academy of Music’s Students Create Festival and curated Senses an exciting music showcase at Camden’s Map Studio Café, reflecting her ongoing commitment to widening access and visibility in the field.
