Jupiter Salon Series: Empowering Identities with Miss Christine!

Empowering Identities is the first of our Jupiter Salon Series, smaller music and culture events designed to encourage communication among and between our attendees and the presenters/performers.

This event will be inside the Barn. We will provide seating for everyone. We will also provide filtered water, ice and cups. We do not provide alcohol beverages, so BYOB. Also BYO snacks (optional). Parking will begin at 7, the event will begin @ 7:30. An email with additional logistical information will be sent to all preregistered attendees closer to the date of the event.

100% of your contributions goes to the performers. Supervised and attentive youth ages 18 and under can attend for free along with their registered adults.

Empowering Identities is a genderqueer and asexual music experience with Miss Christine. During the presentation, band leader Christine Moad (they/them) discusses terms relevant to the genderqueer/ace perspective, offers educational resources for those who share one or both of these identities, and provides insights they’ve gleaned from their own journey to aid those in the LGBTQIA+ community who might be questioning or newly out.

Christine also gives tips for allies who want to better understand and support people with those identities.

After the presentation, Christine and their band will perform a private concert for attendees.

Christine has given this presentation at youth organizations and colleges across the Northeast and Midwest and they are excited to share this firsthand knowledge with you and your audience.

Miss Christine, the moniker of bassist and singer-songwriter Christine Moad, blends indie rock with blues and soul influences, delivered with a defiant punk attitude to open listeners’ minds to possibilities beyond the binary. Their exploration of their own genderqueer and asexual identity inspires their lyrics, resulting in songs that are both intensely personal while simultaneously challenging the harmful stereotypes and expectations associated with gender and sexuality. Even the name Miss Christine turns the gender binary on its head. The “Miss” has nothing to do with womanhood and everything to do with absence and longing. In this case, it’s the longing for truth and freedom from misguided external perceptions.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Christine toured internationally as a professional bassist and worked as a session player in Nashville before moving to a farm near Iowa City where they wrote and recorded their first two albums, “Conversion” in 2019 and “Bittersweet” in 2023. In the fall of 2025, the band embarked on The Bittersweet Tour in support of their second album, created with support from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. The music video for Miss Christine’s song “Google University” has won awards and been featured at film festivals around the world.

The band has extensively toured Midwest and East Coast music venues, bars, cafes, universities, and Pride Festivals. They’ve built a passionate audience and cultivated a strong community of queer and trans allyship across the United States, becoming sought-after for their jubilant performances and their engaging and informative Empowering Identities: A Genderqueer and Asexual Music Experience presentation at colleges and youth organizations.

Christine now lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The band is currently writing their third album, to be released sometime in 2027.
