Jung on Astrology: “The Science of Antiquity”

Join Charleston-area astrologer Alexander Mallon for an illuminating exploration of Carl Jung’s lifelong fascination with astrology—and what the birth chart may reveal about the human psyche.
Jung proposed that beneath our individual awareness lies a Collective Unconscious, populated by universal symbols and patterns he called archetypes. He understood the astrological mandala as a symbolic map of the psyche and sometimes used a client’s horoscope to gain an entirely different perspective on a difficult psychological question.
In a now-famous 1947 letter to astrologer B. V. Raman, Jung wrote, “In cases of difficult psychological diagnosis, I usually get a horoscope in order to have a further point of view from an entirely different angle.”
Drawing upon more than five decades of professional experience, Mallon brings together astrology, psychology, mythology, symbolism, intuitive insight, and a deep knowledge of the heavens. He will explore how astrology influenced Jung’s work and demonstrate how an astrological chart can serve as a mirror of our inner patterns, archetypes, and unfolding life journey.
This will be more than a lecture. Mallon will bring these ideas to life through live chart demonstrations with volunteers from the audience.

Presenter Bio:
With over five decades of professional practice, Alexander Mallon blends astrological counseling/consulting with his background in Clinical Art Therapy and Body Centered Gestalt training. Throughout the years, Alexander has been featured on numerous radio and television programs, and since 2011 he has been the keynote speaker at Professor Robert Thurman’s Menla Winter Solstice Retreat, a healing and lecture center of Tibet House U.S.A., in the Catskill mountains of N.Y.
