Join us at the Merry Oak this Juneteenth for a meaningful community gathering honoring and acknowledging the lives of the more than 200 individuals who were enslaved at Greater Smithfield.
PROGRAM
• Remarks by Blacksburg Town Councilman Darryl Campbell
• Community reading of the names of those enslaved at Greater Smithfield
• Music by the Blacksburg Master Chorale
• Followed by a community potluck at the Pavilion, where community members are invited to bring recipes found in historic African American cookbooks (see links below).
