Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day the final enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is both a historical observance and a community celebration centered on freedom, culture, resilience, and progress. Our goal locally is to honor that history while creating a unifying, citywide experience.
