Juneteenth Event: A Conversation with Michael Carter
June 16
6:30 pm
Wright Memorial Public Library
Join Wright Memorial Public Library in commemorating Juneteenth with a powerful and engaging community conversation featuring guest speaker Michael Carter.
Michael Carter brings a dynamic perspective shaped by more than two decades at Sinclair Community College, where he serves as senior advisor to the president and chief diversity officer. His work extends beyond academia, it is rooted in personal passion and lived experience. He is dedicated to preserving and sharing African American history in ways that are both meaningful and accessible.
Drawing from his extensive collection of historical artifacts, including rare documents and intimate photographs, Carter transforms history into compelling and reflective stories. His focus on uncovering lesser-known narratives, such as unique and candid moments from influential figures like Martin Luther King Jr., allows audiences to connect with history in fresh and impactful ways.
Carter’s journey as a collector, driven by persistence and deep emotional connection, brings authenticity and depth to his storytelling. Rather than simply presenting historical facts, he invites participants to engage with the past and emphasizes its vital role in shaping identity, fostering empowerment, and inspiring the future.
This Juneteenth program promises to be not only informative, but also thought-provoking, inspiring, and memorable. Please feel free to bring questions to the session for Michael to address.
This event is generously sponsored by Sugarcreek Cares. Light refreshments will be provided.
All are welcome to attend this meaningful opportunity for reflection, learning, and community connection.
