North Country, get ready for a powerful night of music and celebration.
Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz and the Colors of Freedom Committee proudly present a special Juneteenth Concert featuring King Solomon Hicks live at Retro Live on Thursday, June 19th. The Plattsburgh Gospel Choir will be opening the show as well as young poet Elijah Hendrix.
Solomon Hicks is of the brightest young talents in today’s blues scene, Hicks brings an exciting mix of blues, soul, funk, jazz, and rock and roll with fiery guitar playing, soulful vocals, and commanding stage presence. Hailing from Harlem, he has shared the stage with legends including Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, George Thorogood, and Joe Bonamassa while building a sound and reputation all his own.
This special Juneteenth celebration is presented in conjunction with the Colors of Freedom Committee, the North Country Underground Railroad Museum, John Brown Lives!, the Clinton County Historical Association, SUNY Plattsburgh, Paul Smith’s College, and the Plattsburgh Public Library. Together, the event celebrates freedom, culture, community, and the deep roots of Black American music through a memorable night of live blues.
