About the performers:

Tshaka M. Campbell is a London-born, California-based poet, performer, and cultural advocate whose work bridges spoken word, literary craft, and social impact. Known for his powerful delivery and lyrical precision, Tshaka has performed internationally at venues including the Apollo Theater, the Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, and London's O2 Arena. A former multi grand slam Champion and the first Black Poet Laureate of Santa Clara County, he has authored four poetry collections and released four spoken word albums, including his latest, NKISI- Spoken House. His work has appeared in BBC UK, Bridges Review, Rigorous, and more. Tshaka is the 2024 Periplus Fellow, poetry editor at Caesura, and sits on the boards of Silicon Valley Creates and Poetry Center San Jose. Through partnerships with organizations like the WHO, De Young Museum, and public transit agencies, he brings poetry into public life. He has recently released Blood at the Root with El Martillo Press in April 2025.

Abayomi Lewis is a sophomore from San Francisco whose artistry bridges poetry and music. As a 2025 Bay Area Brave New Voices Champion and American Idol Top 20 contestant, she captivates audiences with soulful performances inspired by her Haitian-American heritage. Abayomi’s music draws from jazz and neo-soul legends, exploring themes of hope, healing, and identity. Beyond the stage, she volunteers with local nonprofits, teaching storytelling and mentoring young artists. Through her creative expression and community commitment, Abayomi unites people and celebrates culture. She aspires to use her talents and voice to inspire positivity.

The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol is known as an icon in the Bay Area and beyond, highly regarded for her powerful voice, astonishing versatility, and gift of connecting with her audience. Equally at home in jazz, blues, R&B, gospel, funk, latin, and hip-hop, she has developed her own authentic sound and unique delivery, delighting audiences young and old across the globe. After beginning her career with gospel music, Faye Carol made her name singing with Oakland blues and funk legend Johnny Talbot & De Thangs in the 1960s. She soon formed her own trio and gained fame in San Francisco's jazz, blues, and cabaret clubs of the 1970s and 80s. Over a 60-year career in music, this living legend has developed her own unique acoustic sound and style in Black Music - drawing from funk, blues, gospel, and straight ahead swingin' - and cultivated an audience that remains as diverse as her uplifting music. She has maintained a high level of musicianship in her groups, mentoring some of the Bay Area's brightest young talent including Benny Green, Marcus Shelby, and her daughter Kito Kamili. Her vocal proteges include international superstars Kehlani and Ledisi.
