Juneteenth Community Film Screening of Summer of Soul
Exodus: Black Joy, Memory, & Liberation
A Juneteenth Community Celebration
Join the Oakland East Bay Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for an afternoon of culture, community, and conversation as we commemorate Juneteenth through the power of film and storytelling.
On Saturday, June 20, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Sullivan Center, we'll screen the Academy Award-winning documentary Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), a powerful film that uncovers the story of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival and celebrates Black music, history, and resilience.
Following the screening, participate in a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring the theme of Black joy as an act of resistance, remembrance, and liberation, and its lasting impact on our communities.
This family-friendly community event welcomes guests of all ages to come together in celebration, reflection, and fellowship. Invite your family and friends as we honor the legacy of Juneteenth and the enduring strength of Black culture.
Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
