Juneteenth Chambersburg Commemoration
About this Event
Remember, Celebrate & Teach! On Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4 PM to 8 PM, and Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM, commemorate Juneteenth at the Spring Street Amphitheater in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Friends, family, and neighbors will enjoy two days of speakers, entertainers, vendors, food trucks, and children's activities--all set on and around the stage of the new Spring Street Amphitheater.
Although President Abraham Lincoln issued and signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, enslavement did not magically end on that day. Congress passed the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States, on January 31, 1865. On June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, Texas and delivered General Order No. 3, declaring the 250,000 enslaved of Texas freed. On December 6, 1865, Congress ratified the 13th Amendment.
Juneteenth started as a celebration on June 19, 1866 in Galveston, Texas and was called Jubilee Day--inspired by the biblical Year of Jubilee. Join the Juneteenth Commemoration in Chambersburg to celebrate and learn!
