Join the Academy Art Museum for its 18th annual Juneteenth celebration, a free, daylong event honoring the voices, history, and lived experiences of Easton’s historic Hill Community—one of the oldest free African American neighborhoods in the United States. This year’s program centers on connection and community, with guided tours of the Hill, live performances, lectures, and conversations in partnership with organizations including Building African American Minds, the Frederick Douglass Honor Society, and the Talbot County Free Library.
Inside the Museum, a special atrium exhibition will showcase artifacts uncovered from the site of the future Freeman Annex & Hormel Research Center, offering a deeper look at the families and stories rooted in this land. The celebration also features work by artist Tawny Chatmon and a community mural project led by Artist-in-Residence Esteban del Valle in collaboration with local youth.
Free and open to all, this year’s Juneteenth is an invitation to reflect, learn, and come together—grounded in history and looking toward the future.
