June Play Date - Dolomite Days of Summer
🌊 It’s almost time to gather for June Play Date, part of South Side Nature Play's Dolomite Days of Summer series, where we will get to know our Great Lake a little bit better!
🌊 What questions do you have about Lake Michigan? How old is she? Does she go by any other names? How much water does she contain? What is dolomitic limestone? What can we do together - through exploration and observation - to protect Lake Michigan from environmental threats like plastic waste?
🌊 Maybe we don’t have all the answers to our questions right now, but SSNP promises an adventurous afternoon for the whole family along the shoreline starting at Morgan Point Beach. Through our field exploration of the water, land, and creatures, we will also collectively participate in stewardship of this unique natural area.
⚠️ Accessibility: Paths along the Lakefront Trail are paved. Morgan Point Beach is rocky with large chunks of limestone and uneven terrain, but grassy and flat areas are available nearby.
🚍 🚗 Parking & Transportation: Morgan Point Beach is easily accessible by bus on the #47 and the #6. Paid parking is available in the lot near the 47th Street Pedestrian Bridge at 47th Street & Cornell, directly adjacent to Burnham Nature Sanctuary.
