I SWEAR, a biographical comedy-drama film about the true life story of John Davidson, a Scottish man with severe Tourette syndrome, will be the June 2026 Footcandle Film Society selection and will be shown three times at two different venues:
Tues, June 9, 7pm, New State Cinema, Downtown Newton
Wed, June 10, 7pm, Carolina Theater, Downtown Hickory
Thurs, June 11, 7pm, Carolina Theater, Downtown Hickory
Please note: This film is Rated R for severe language throughout and some violence.
I SWEAR is a 2025 British biographical comedy-drama film directed, written, and produced by Kirk Jones. It is based on the true life story of John Davidson, a Scottish man with severe Tourette syndrome who was the subject of the 1989 television documentary John's Not Mad. The film stars Robert Aramayo as Davidson, alongside Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Peter Mullan in supporting roles. Scott Ellis Watson makes his acting debut as a young Davidson.
Members are welcome to attend any of the screening locations or dates. All current members are admitted free; all other guests are $7.00 at the door at all locations.
