Dear Columbia Community Members,I am thrilled to invite you to join your friends, neighbors, and fellow Columbians for a Community Park Cleanup at Douglass Park on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. This is your chance to roll up your sleeves, enjoy a beautiful June evening outdoors, and help give one of our beloved community spaces the care it deserves. Whether you can stay for the full three hours or just drop by for 30 minutes, every bit of effort counts — and we would love to have you there.
Our parks are the heart of our neighborhoods. They are where our kids play, where we walk our dogs, where we gather for cookouts, and where we go to breathe a little easier after a long day. A clean, well-cared-for park tells our community that we value the spaces we share — and that we value each other. The timing of this cleanup is especially meaningful: June 18 kicks off a weekend of Juneteenth activities, making it a powerful moment to come together in service, reflection, and celebration of community. A cleanup now also primes Douglass Park for the busy Fourth of July season ahead, so families and visitors can enjoy the space at its best all summer long.
We have planned this as an evening event so we can beat the midday heat and take advantage of the long June daylight — sunset is not until around 8:40 PM, so we will have plenty of golden-hour light to work by. Some supplies will be provided, including work gloves, trash bags, litter grabbers, rakes, etc., but please feel free to bring your own. All you need to do is show up in closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. You are encouraged to bring your own water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.
All ages and abilities are welcome — families, students, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone who wants to make a difference. To sign up, please visit https://forms.gle/CEMGHMSFVnMx6Yz3A or reach out to me directly at 573.289.6536/ [email protected]] with any questions.
I cannot wait to see Douglass Park shine — and I cannot wait to see all of you out there. Every pair of hands makes a difference. Whether you are a longtime Columbia resident or brand new to the neighborhood, this is your community and your park. Let's take care of it together.
Thank you for your time, your energy, and your love for this community. Let's make June 18 a day to remember!
With gratitude and community spirit,
Keener Tippin
