About this Event

Step into an evening of golden light, wide open skies, and art that makes you feel the heat of a Texas summer at The Cathedral's July Open House — featuring Sun-Drenched, a group exhibition with El Baker, Kandice Pierce, and Landry McMeans.

Voted as one of the top three places to see art in Austin, this Latina-owned gallery is proud to gather three of Texas's most compelling landscape artists under one roof for a singular, immersive summer experience.

Sun-Drenched is a celebration of summer light and the landscapes it transforms. Landry McMeans distills the American Southwest into large-scale stencil paintings of sun-bleached palettes and dreamworld stillness — the product of years spent absorbing the desert through windshields and open skies. El Baker wrestles the Texas landscape into something layered and alive, building and scraping and staining until the canvas holds all the buried stories of the land itself. Kandice Pierce chases the first light and the last, painting not just what a place looks like but what it leaves inside you — the ache of a horizon you'll carry home.

Together, these three artists invite you to slow down, look closer, and feel the particular pleasure of a place that has gotten under your skin.

Throughout the evening, guests are invited to move through the space, sit with the work, and experience what it feels like when painting doesn't just depict a landscape — it puts you inside one. Connect with the artists, gather with Austin's creative community, and enjoy an open bar featuring craft cocktails, all inside one of the most distinctive gallery spaces in the city.

Want to go deeper? Don't miss the Artist Talk. Before doors open, join El Baker, Kandice Pierce, and Landry McMeans for a limited-access, intimate conversation about the work, the process, and the ideas behind the exhibition. Tickets are limited — this is your chance to hear directly from all three artists in the space where the work lives.

Whether you're a longtime collector or simply art-curious, Open House nights at The Cathedral are designed to make contemporary art approachable, engaging, and alive.
