Did you know that Altona is home to a unique piece if Victoria's history? The Truganina Explosives Reserve was the storage and distribution centre for explosives for civilian use, between 1901 and 1962. Today it is managed by Hobsons Bay City Council, which manages the former operations area as a nature reserve. The site has a number of buildings, including two historic residences, and an ornamental garden, all of which have been restored by The Hobsons Bay Men's Shed Restoration Group.
Come along to the Reserve on Sunday 7 July and learn more about this fascinating place! Take a guided tour of the nature reserve, stroll around the gardens and look through the historic buildings.
Bring a picnic if the weather is good - tea and coffee will be available, gold coin donation appreciated.
