The Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA) has grown from a small idea into an ambitious, internationally recognised platform connecting artists, curators and communities across the Indian Ocean through contemporary craft. Since its launch in 2021, IOTA has showcased an extraordinary diversity of craft practice across cultures while exploring the enduring relevance of making in a rapidly changing world. As craft experiences renewed global interest through sustainability, material knowledge, cultural identity and the handmade, IOTA has positioned Western Australia at the centre of these conversations.
Join IOTA founders Jude van der Merwe OAM and Carola Akindele-Obe for an engaging presentation on the past, present and future of IOTA – from its origins and achievements to plans for IOTA27 and the opportunities ahead for fibre, textile, and craft practitioners in WA and beyond.
After the talk, we’ll keep things relaxed with time to chat, share work, and catch up with each other.
We’ll meet on the third Tuesday of each month at Tresillian Arts Centre, Nedlands. 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
