July Meet-Up at Travis Air Force Base Museum
Sunday, July 26
Our July meet-up is one of our favorite events of the year! This will be a two-part event at Travis Air Force Base.
We’ll begin with a visit to the TAFB Aviation Museum, where we’ll have the opportunity to park our Volkswagens among the historic aircraft for some incredible photo opportunities while enjoying the museum.
Afterward, we’ll head over to the TAFB Bowling Alley for bowling, lunch, and more time with fellow club members.
A very special thank you to our club members Enrique Ugalde (TAFB Aviation Museum) and Skip Merryman (Bowling Alley Manager) for helping coordinate this event!
As always - Solano VW Club events are open to ALL VWs, any model and year. Air Cooled and Water Cooled welcome! Don't have a VW but still want to join us? Please do!
🚨 PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT BASE ACCESS INFORMATION BELOW THE TIMELINE!
This is an active military installation, and everyone must meet base access requirements. Please read all of the information below the timeline carefully. We don’t want anyone to arrive only to be turned away because they don’t have the proper identification or documentation.
📅 Event Timeline
9:00 AM --- Anyone not completing the pre-check (see below) must meet at the Travis Air Force Base Visitor Center (Front Gate) to be processed for base access.

• Please follow either a museum volunteer or one of our members with base access.

BASE ACCESS REQUIREMENTS
Acceptable Identification
You may enter the base using any of the following:
• Military ID (including Military Dependent ID)
• California REAL ID (look for the gold bear with a white star in the upper-right corner)
• If you do not have a REAL ID, you must present:
Standard driver’s license or ID PLUS ONE of the following:
Valid U.S. Passport
Social Security Card
U.S. Birth Certificate
Minors
• Children under 16 do not require a visitor pass but must be accompanied by an adult with proper identification.
• Anyone 16 or older must present a REAL ID or the alternate identification listed above.
Sponsorship
Every person entering the base must be sponsored by someone with a Military ID. Kerri & Steve Schillinger can both sponsor people onto the base. If anyone else coming has base access, and would like to assist in sponsoring visitors – please let me know.
Security Screening
Everyone entering the base will:
• Have their identification reviewed.
• Undergo a criminal history background check.
Please be aware that individuals with certain criminal histories may be denied access by the base.
⭐ Pre-Check (Highly Recommended!)
The fastest and easiest way to get onto base is by completing a pre-check.
To complete the pre-check, I will need:
• Driver’s License Number
• Social Security Number
• Full Name
• Date of Birth
I will personally deliver this information to our museum contact, who will submit it to the Visitor Center for your background check and identity verification.
On event day, your name will be on the approved list, and you’ll simply present your REAL ID at the gate. We’ll wait at the visitor center and go through the gate as a group or a few small groups.
To Complete the Pre-Check
Please text me at 805-746-9740.
I will then call you to collect your information over the phone.
I work in accounting, so security is extremely important to me. Your information is stored securely, provided only to the base for this event, and deleted immediately afterward. I do not keep anyone’s information after the event.
If you’ve completed a pre-check for one of our previous visits, you’ll need to provide your information again since it is deleted after each event.
If You Choose Not to Do the Pre-Check
You will need to arrive at the Visitor Center by 9:00 AM.
Please understand that check-in/background check times vary depending on how busy the Visitor Center is. On one recent visit, there were approximately 30 people waiting, and processing took nearly two hours.
For that reason, we strongly encourage everyone to complete the pre-check. Anyone who has attended this event with us before can tell you how much easier and faster it is.
We can’t wait to spend another fun day surrounded by amazing airplanes, beautiful Volkswagens, great food, bowling, and even better company. See everyone there!
