Parallax -the shifting appearance of an object from two separate and distinct viewpoints. Spanning across the expanded field of print media, these works emerge from and engage with the fluid and shifting dualities inherent to the post-industrial Midwestern experience.
The American Midwest is characterized by images and remnants of its history as a region of prolific production. Labor, consumption, and identity are encoded into the aesthetics of its sprawl. Parallax highlights the diverse voices of emerging artists whose work engages with imagery plucked from the Rustbelt. These works include contemplations on formation and renewal in the fly-over states. Just as these works are in dialogue with one another, they also converse with the culture in which they were created, nodding to familiar images of crumbling concrete and anxious ruminations on the future whose weight it cannot withstand.
Homeward: National Juried Exhibition
Whether it's shelter from the storm, where your heart is, or a place you can never go back, our homes inspire reflection. The two and three dimensional works in this exhibition describes, depicts or responds to the home. Domestic spaces can be considered prisons, shelters, or just a place to hang a hat. Buckham Gallery welcomes you homeward into the artist’s vision of home.
