Join the Washington Revels “Dragon-palooza” on July 4th!
Be part of something big—250 years big. Washington Revels is celebrating America’s Birthday at the Takoma Park 4th of July Parade, and we want YOU in the lineup. This year’s procession will feature our beloved singers, musicians, characters, and fools—plus a special spectacle: Dragon-palooza, a gathering of Revels dragons from across the decades.
We’re building a joyful, colorful, intergenerational parade group, and everyone is welcome. No experience needed. Just bring your enthusiasm and help us share a vibrant summer slice of Washington Revels with thousands of spectators.
All participants will wear brand‑new Washington Revels T‑shirts, and we’ll provide ribbon sticks, props, banners, and dragons (!) to keep the energy high. Folks who have their own dragons can bring them, or you can join our workshops to make your own! Kids of all ages can join (including those in strollers); children under 13 should march with a responsible adult.
Play a portable instrument? Let us know—we’d love to include you in the band.

The day’s events are planned, directed, and financed mainly by the efforts of the all-volunteer Takoma Park Independence Day Committee (TPIDC), with the cooperation of the Departments of the City of Takoma Park and the Mayor and Council. TPIDC is a small group of volunteers who work hundreds of hours each year to make the celebration a success. In addition to the parade, the festivities continue throughout the day, culminating in an Evening Street Party from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Maple Ave, between Philadelphia Ave & Ritchie Ave.
