About the evening
Kolkata eats differently after sunset.
As night falls, the city comes alive, carts glow under yellow bulbs, oil crackles in hot kadhais, spices sharpen, and people eat standing up, late and unapologetically.
Kolkata After Dark is a city-forward Bengali supper inspired by the food that comes alive at night, from crackling telebhaja stalls near Sealdah, to smoky kebab grills on Zakaria Street, to the chilli-forward Indo-Chinese kitchens that stay busy well past dark.
The evening ends with fresh chhena mishti, handcrafted by Angana and Lahana, third-generation makers behind Jugal’s. These sweets are the foundation of the brand, delicate, handmade, and prepared the traditional way, carrying forward a legacy that began over a century ago.
This menu is shaped by the personal experiences of Angana and Lahana, two sisters who grew up eating these foods on the streets of Kolkata, woven into the everyday rhythm of the city.
