Praised for his strong rapport and superb cantabile, Mexican pianist Juan Pablo Horcasitas is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. Since his solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2009, he has been actively performing and collaborating with many artists. As the first-prize winner at the “Manuel de Falla” Piano Competition in Mexico City, he has performed in the main concert halls in Mexico, including Palacio de Bellas Artes, Carlos Chávez, and Blas Galindo concert halls as well as at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum Center in Chicago, the Banesco Auditorium in Caracas, Teatro Nacional in San Salvador and the Steinway Hall and Museo del Barrio in New York. His most recent presentations include Berlin, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi recitals.
As a soloist, he recently performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Singapore and the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra. Important Mexican orchestras, such as Camerata de Coahuila, Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, and Orquesta de Baja California, have also invited him. He has participated in several international festivals, such as the Suolahti International Music Festival in Finland and the Latino Music Festival in Chicago, The Latin American Cultural Week in New York, and the International Festival of Symphonic Music in Algiers.
At the same time, Mr. Horcasitas is an active collaborative artist, chamber musician, conductor, and teacher. He has performed in Caracas, Chicago, New York, and Mexico City, collaborating with diverse musicians. In 2006 he was a guest conductor for the opening concert at the Mozart Festival in Tepotzotlán. For two years, he was Music Director for Opera Hispánica, an opera company focused on Latin American and Spanish opera. In January 2012, he served as Music Director for the musical “La Llorona” –composed by Héctor Armienta- in its New York City premiere.
Having a special interest in promoting the music of American and Latin American composers, he was the recipient of the National Award for the Culture and the Arts Scholarship with the project: “Carlos Chávez: Early piano pieces.” He constantly programs music by Mexican composers, including Samuel Zyman, Pablo Moncayo, and Manuel M Ponce. In 2015 he received the Excellence in Classical Music Award at the Mexican Music Awards in New York City. Recently he was invited by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to present a lecture/recital on Mexican concert music from the 19th, 20th, and 21st. centuries.
From 2009-2022 he was a faculty member at the Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School –for the visually impaired. He also served for many years as a piano faculty at the Diller Quaile School of Music in New York City. He currently works as the Piano Department Chair and Piano Faculty at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Horcasitas holds both the Bachelor's and Master's in Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Nina Svetlanova. His teachers in Mexico are Carmen Carrasco, Alberto Cruzprieto, and María Teresa Frenk. He also received formal conducting training under the guidance of Maestro David Jackson.
In April 2021, he released his second studio recording, “Prelude.” He is also pursuing his Doctor in Musical Arts degree (Piano Performance) at the University of Wisconsin- Madison under the guidance of Dr. Jessica Johnson.
