On June 15th at the Hollygarth Club, Jo's Bees, a local fundraising group, will be putting on a gig to raise money for 3 local causes in memory of Addingham woman, Joanne Slaven.
"We are absolutely delighted to welcome Virginia, USA based band The Currys to play at this special event! The Currys are a harmony based country/indie/folk/americana/rock trio out of Charlottesville, VA. Brothers Tommy and Jimmy and cousin Galen all write and perform their own songs and last year they crowd funded and released their fourth studio album! They are touring the UK and will also be playing the Isle of Wight Festival whilst they are here! They are a band not to be missed and lovely chaps too!
Alongside The Currys we are also excited to announce that local country trio, Marti, Rich and Keith will be opening the night with considered country classics. Known as Yorkshire's answer to Nashville, they are highly accomplished musicians showcasing beautiful harmonies and great onstage chemistry."
Throughout the evening there will be a raffle as well as signature americana cocktails and charcuterie to purchase from The Wild Horse Kitchen.
We are raising money in Jo's memory for 3 local causes that would've been important to Jo who was a Manager for a local respite care centre for children and young people with complex health. Sadly, Joanne died of a brain tumour in 2016. Fundraising in her memory is a lovely way to honour her. She would have loved this event and would've been dancing all night long!
The local causes are,
1. The Singing Teapot which is a Keighley based dementia choir organised by Dementia Friendly Keighley. They meet on the first Friday of each month, from 2-3:30pm at the Information & Support Centre, 6 College Walk, Airedale Shopping Centre Keighley BD21 3PH.
2. The Salvation Army in Keighley are currently looking for funding to roll out 2 community projects based around cooking, the first of the two is the Victory Programme which is all about empowering people to learn to cook healthy food on a budget and thereby saving money, and the second project is called “Let’s Make Tea” where they will invite families to come and have tea at the Centre after school where they can build relationships and progress to the Victory Programme if necessary.
3. The third local cause is Nell Bank Charitable Trust based in Ilkley. They have 3 projects that they are looking to fund, Welly Washing Machine: At Nell Bank we have oodles of wellies used daily by many children who do not have their own, and all of these require washing before the children go home.
Sensory Garden Resources: The Aiming High lodge which is used by special school and inclusion group visitors, has an enclosed sensory garden for children to explore and spend some calm time relaxing in.
Assisted Places Scheme: The Nell Bank Charitable Trust runs an Assisted Places scheme which can provide funding for children, who might otherwise not be able afford a visit, to attend alongside their peers.
Anyone who attends the event can decide how to 'spend their donation'! By placing their ticket in a bucket we will work out the percentage for each project and then distribute the funds accordingly.
