About this Event
Imagine a full day of inviting, exploring, grieving, acknowledging, reimagining, and integrating joy education and practices that will ripple through you and your life indefinitely.
Thea Monyeé is an experienced marriage and family therapist who creates transformational spaces & opportunities for change and joy. She is known as a well-being decolonizer and Oya priestess in the Ifa tradition, committed to creating opportunities to expand and exhale, with a primary focus on Black/Marginalized bodies.
In addition to appearances on HBO, OWN, FOX SOUL, and THE RED TABLE TALK, she is the host of Shaping The Shift Podcast, founder of MarleyAyo, and The Blacker The Brain: A Mental Health Decolonizing Campaign, Conversation, & Cohort, co-host of Dem Black Mamas Podcast, and co-creator of The Free Joy Experience. She is the author of Murmurs Of A MadWoman and Blood & Bajareque. She has been featured in outlets such as The New York Times, NPR, and KTLA discussing COVID-19, race, joy-centered healing, and mental health.
After years of experience as a marriage and family therapist specializing in diversity and decolonization of mental health, as well as her experience as an artist, podcaster, and writer, Thea Monyeé shifted her focus to joy education and advocacy as a path of self and collective liberation through her company MarleyAyo. From The Blacker The Brain, to Shaping The Shift Podcast, to Hold Us Sacred Retreats, her work consistently centers the co-creation of sustainable healing and liberation practices rooted in joy and connection.
Joy Emersion ATL will be held at The Rest Spot, a community and space that shares Thea’s desire to create worry-free ecosystems for those seeking to recover, reimagine, and reclaim their right to a joy centered life.
The agenda includes nourishing meals and refreshments, as well as a series of spacious opportunities of intimate engagement, reflection, connection, and release. There will be time for connecting with yourself, and time for connecting with others. The day will be full of takeaways, memories, and most of all, a sustainable joy starter set for anyone who desires to create a life where joy is their metric.
