Drifter was produced by multi-Grammy winning producer Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, Christone Kingfish Ingram).At a young age, the longing and pain expressed by Southern Black Baptist church music spoke to me, but as I experienced my own trials and tribulations, I felt the pull of the blues, Jovin shares. I soon realized that gospel and blues are related. Someone with the blues is in a low place, and when you seek salvation youre also usually in a low place.Drifter is the sound of a blues life searching for a gospel redemption. Its me trying to figure out religion, women, my career, and everything Ive gone through, Jovin says. The twelve tracks on Drifter evoke a blues classicism without ever feeling nostalgic or derivative.When he first stepped onto the Idol stage in 2020, Webb captivated the judges and audiences alike. Lionel Richie described his voice as the sound of barbecue sauce, while Luke Bryan remarked, I could sit and drink a lot of bourbon listening to that voice. These comments, alongside the singers authenticity, helped propel him into the hearts of fans nationwide.His life story is one of humility and strength. Raised by a devoted single mother who sacrificed for her family, Webb learned the importance of hard work and determination. His father, a charismatic figure, introduced him to the blues at an early age, singing John Lee Hookers Boom Boom and instilling in him a love for the genre.With Drifter, Jovin Webb emerges as more than just a contestant on a talent showhe is a first-rate artist whose music echoes the trials and triumphs of his life.
