Multidisciplinary artist Saaret E. Yoseph blends genre and form to explore identity, art and memory across the African diaspora.
Multidisciplinary artist Saaret E. Yoseph blends genre and form to explore identity, art and memory across the African diaspora. Her visual "docupoem" JOURNEY(S): addis to dc combines oral history, animation, archival imagery and original poetry to examine the complex meaning of "home." Inspired by poet Ntozake Shange's innovative choreopoem for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf, Yoseph's landmark project honors the migration experiences of Black transnational women. Following the screening of JOURNEY(S), Yoseph will moderate a Q&A with fellow artists and collaborators, as they reflect on the project themes and its connection to Yaa Gyasi's Homegoing.
