Twilight falls upon the streets of Paris. Along the façade of the hallowed shrine to France’s most honored dead, images of a bygone era dance—images of the Creole Goddess who took Jazz Age Paris by storm. From humble beginnings in East St. Louis, Baker would become one of the most celebrated performers in Paris in the Roaring Twenties, a spy for the French Resistance during World War II, and a devoted advocate for civil rights in her homeland.
