Experience the vibrant heartbeat of the Dominican Republic as Josean Jacobo, hailed as the “Ambassador of Afro-Dominican Jazz,” makes his electrifying Australian debut!
A Berklee College of Music graduate and one of the Dominican Republic’s most celebrated musicians, Josean is a pianist, producer, and singer-songwriter who blends the rich rhythms of his homeland—Merengue, Pambiche, Palos, and more—with the soulful edge of jazz, Neo-Soul, and electronic dance.
Josean’s critically acclaimed album Cimarrón topped jazz charts worldwide, earning praise from the BBC, ABC Jazz, and Jazziz magazine as one of the best albums of 2019. A regular on the international jazz festival circuit, he’s performed at prestigious events like the Panama Jazz Festival and Barranquijazz Festival.
For this unmissable Australian premiere, Josean teams up with Dominican drumming powerhouse Otoniel Nicolás and a stellar line-up of Aussie talent: James Greening (trombone), Gai Bryant (saxophones), Giorgio Rojas (percussion), and Harry Birch (double bass) of the ARIA-nominated group ALLY. Together, they’ll craft a groundbreaking soundscape that fuses Afro-Dominican roots with modern Latin jazz and dance grooves.
