ABOUT JON
Cellist Jon Leonard Cruz was born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba and began studying the instrument at the age of seven. His principal teachers include Mercedes Hernández at the Elementary School of Music “Ernesto Lecuona”, Rusi Dragvne at the National School of Music, and. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Arts in Havana, where he studied with Gabriela Nardo López, and a Professional Performance Certificate from the Lynn Conservatory, where he is now pursuing a master’s degree in the studio of David Cole.
Jon has performed with ensembles such as the Gran Teatro de La Habana Orchestra, Música Eterna, the Lyceum Mozartiano de la Habana Orchestra, and the South Florida Symphony. He has also participated in the Musicalia Competition and was selected as a winner of the Lynn Concerto Competition, appearing as soloist with the Lynn Philharmonia Orchestra. His masterclass experience includes working with Johannes Mosser and Ludwig Quandt.
When not practicing, Jon enjoys playing baseball, watching soccer, and listening to Cuban music.
