About this Event
Join us for the opening of News/Print!
This fall, the Oakland Lowdown and City Studio hosted the inaugural News/Print fellowship, inviting five local community college students to draw attention to local issues in Oakland through creative visuals. Over the course of 10 weeks, each News/Print fellow learned how to blend art and journalism to elevate a story affecting Oaklanders through original screenprinted posters.
In this exhibit, Danbi Han explores excessive overtime pay among Oakland police; Melanie Torrez-Canales investigates how cuts to public transit threaten disability access, Krystal Situ showcases the strength of Chinatown's senior community, Jay Ancheta considers how the current political climate fuels censorship of local teachers; and, Avery Huetter researches different types of educational philosophies and looks at inequities in the various systems.
Join us for a free event to meet the artists, check out their work, and make your own poster!
