In this highly participatory session, you’re invited to take part in a “Braver Angels” collegiate debate—a structured dialogue in which students and community members explore opposing views with respect, curiosity, and a spirit of shared learning. Together, participants debate a resolution connected to the 250th anniversary of America’s founding. No prior debate experience is necessary—just a willingness to listen, speak, and learn.
“Braver Angels” is a national citizens’ movement committed to bridging divides and strengthening democratic culture through thoughtful, informed dialogue. Its signature debates are not about winning arguments, but about understanding one another. Centered on a single resolution, these debates offer a carefully moderated format that encourages participants to think together, challenge assumptions, and build mutual respect across differences.
Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
This event is produced by the Karsh Institute of Democracy in partnership with the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, Braver Angels, the College Debates and Discourse Alliance, and Think Again.
