Johnathan Blake est tombé dans la marmite jazz très tôt en vivant proche des groupes de Grover Washington et McCoy Tiner dont son père faisait partie. Il est aujourd’hui l’un des batteurs les plus réputés de sa génération. Si on le connaît pour sa longue fidélité au trio de Kenny Barron, il s’est produit avec de grands noms de la scène internationale : Pharoah Sanders, Roy Hargrove, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell, Avishai Cohen, Donny McCaslin, Chris Potter…
Avec le jeu passionné, subtil, maîtrisé qui le caractérise, Johnathan Blake ne cesse de se nourrir de l’histoire du jazz et d'approfondir un jeu toujours plus créatif.
Entouré de la fine fleur de la nouvelle génération du jazz new-yorkais, il présente le programme d’un tout nouvel album chez Blue Note, dont le titre, My Life Matters, témoigne d’une prise de position sociale et musicale qui résonne tristement d’actualité.
