John Reischman and Kathy Kallick have been making music together since 1978, when they first joined forces in the Good Ol’ Persons.Their collaboration continues for this concert — which also includes a John Reischman & the Jaybirds set celebrating the release of their new album, The Salish Sea. This is the band’s 8th recording, the first that includes guitarist Patrick Sauber joining John (mandolin), Trisha Gagnon (bass), Nick Hornbuckle (banjo), and Greg Spatz (fiddle) as full time members.
Along with dobro master Mike Witcher, Kathy will join the band for a second set of selections from the 5 Good Ol’ Persons’ albums, as well as songs from some of her other 18 releases. John and Kathy have co-written many songs, and some of these are sure to be included.
John Reischman and Kathy Kallick are both Grammy Award winners, California Bluegrass Association Lifetime Member Award winners, and winners of International Bluegrass Music Association awards for Album Of the Year and Recorded Event Of the Year.
“John Reischman is an accomplished performer whose career has spanned more than forty years: a veteran of the 1970s West Coast band The Good Ol’ Persons; a founding member of The Tony Rice Unit; and leader of the very entertaining John Reischman & the Jaybirds. He also has received considerable acclaim for his solo CDs, Latin/jazz releases with guitarist John Miller, and his collaboration with Sharon Gilchrist and Scott Nygaard. Reischman’s exquisite technique, tone, and timing are as legendary as his 1924 Lloyd Loar F5 mandolin, whether he’s playing bluegrass, old time, swing, Brazilian choros, or Puerto Rican jibaro music.”
