John Powell Memorial Toss - Orlando
About this Event
At the 2016 SBC Annual Meeting in St. Louis, MO, the first-ever SBC Toss was established in the St. Louis Convention Center Exhibit Hall. John Powell, Dean Inserra, and Kody Gibson brought their gloves to the convention and snuck in a round of toss amid the forklifts and cardboard boxes during the teardown of the exhibit hall.
Following 2016, SBC Toss expanded in participants and upgraded its venue locations, including baseball fields at Dallas Baptist University (2018) and Samford University (2019).
At the annual meeting in Nashville in 2021, SBC Toss was renamed to the John Powell Memorial Toss to honor the late John Powell, who died heroically while helping a stranded driver in July 2020. More than 100 people attended the inaugural John Powell Memorial Toss at Walk of Fame Park in Nashville, TN.
