John Moore's 'The Crime Reporter' at Bas Bleu Theatre

My mom had eight kids by the time she was 32. Long ago, I promised myself to try to write …something … that would honor her journey as a working mother in the 1970s. ”The Crime Reporter” is my attempt at fulfilling that promise. You can see the words spoken out loud for the first time at any of three special-event developmental play readings Sept. 11-13 at Bas Bleu Theatre. It’s directed by Christy Montour-Larson and features Emily Paton Davies, Devon James, Carla Kaiser Kotrc and a wee facsimile of a teenage me yet to be determined. I would be delighted if you would be part of this new journey. Tickets are $15-$25 at https://www.basbleu.org/bbtc-events
I wrote that. I did not write this, but there it is:
“Set across the changing landscape of 1970s Arvada, this witty, poignant new play follows two Catholic mothers — and one pint-sized member of the neighborhood press — navigating a decade of shifting rules. Through the comic lens of the town’s weekly police blotter, their lives collide in a deeply personal coming-of-age story of family resilience, female empowerment and the power of a clacking typewriter key.
