Storyteller John Heimbuch performs Charlie Bethel’s stunning one-person version of Beowulf. This vibrant and modern retelling of the classic Old English poem about a warrior king and three famous monsters embodies the wit and vigor of the original Anglo-Saxon epic. Come hear the tale as it’s meant to be heard!
About the artists:
Writer Charlie Bethel was a renowned storyteller. He adapted Beowulf into a solo theatrical text in 2001, and performed it at venues across the United States until his death in 2017. His other solo stage adaptations include Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, Call of the Wild, and Seven Poor Travelers.
John Heimbuch first performed Beowulf at the 2019 Minnesota Fringe Festival, and has performed it at backyards, bars, schools, theatres, firesides, parks, conventions, and online ever since. He is proud to continue the legacy of Charlie Bethel’s work.

Additional Logistics:
* Weather permitting, we’ll be in the backyard. If we need to move inside, we’ll announce in the event day of. Inside is up a flight and a half of stairs.
* Street parking on Pearl St is permit only, so we recommend carpooling or taking public transit. Nearby streets with free open parking include College Ave, Main St, George St, Brooks Park, Hancock Ave, and Hancock Street.
* Jamberry House Concerts are fragrance-free. Please refrain from wearing any perfumes, colognes, or other strongly scented products.
* Stay home if you are sick, or if you’ve been recently exposed to contagious illness. Testing before you arrive is highly encouraged, and masks are welcome but not required. If we move inside, we’ll have multiple air filters running in the space.
