Celebrate 20 incredible years of blues with Blue John! John Gregory — better known as Blue John— marks two decades of performing the blues with a very special live show at The Institute, Laxey on 16 May 2026, joined by special guests The Jesse Janes Band.
A much-loved Isle of Man country blues guitarist, Blue John is renowned for his authentic fingerpicking style inspired by the greats, including Mississippi John Hurt and Big Bill Broonzy. His career has taken him across the British Isles, touring with U.S. blues heroes such as Ari Eisinger, Erin Harpe, and Toby Walker, as well as performing alongside Dr Phil Ratcliffe—biographer of Mississippi John Hurt—and even travelling to Chicago to play Broonzy’s own guitar. John spent many years side by side on stage with singer and harmonica player Tim Cass who were known in the music scene as the blues duo Blue John and Papa Cass. He has opened for legends including Duck Baker, Martin Taylor, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Dr Phil Ratcliffe hails him as “an outstanding musician of early blues and ragtime styles”, while Blues Matters! magazine praises him as “a very fine acoustic picker”.
Joining him for this milestone celebration are The Jesse Janes Band, a dynamic four-piece outfit from Tyrone and Liverpool whose sold-out Isle of Man shows in April 2025 wowed audiences island-wide. Their rich, multi-instrumental sound blends Americana, Country, Folk, Irish, Blues, and Bluegrass, guaranteeing an unforgettable night of top-class live music.
