Back again this season after their successful premiere in 2023, the Northshore Gospel Choir will make a triumphant, joyful return to the Dew Drop’s historic stage. The choir is composed of talented singers from local, historic African-American churches and led by music director Dr. Maurice Moncure. The first set will feature the gospel choir and maybe a special guest or two. Along with gospel favorites & hymns a few Holiday tunes will likely make the repertoire as we showcase the talents of our neighbors from First Free Mission Baptist Church, Morning Star Baptist Church and several other congregations. This joyful community celebration will be a tribute to choir member & longtime Dew Drop volunteer Sister Sandra Preston, who passed away in June.
Rounding out the second set will be the soulful sounds of famed singer John Boutté and his band. John’s long career & vocal finesse has taken him around the world and includes a repertoire of jazz, gospel and soul that has earned him numerous vocal awards. His distinct, celebrated talent is like no other and we’re honored to have John return to the Dew Drop for this special collaborative performance, one that is now becoming a popular annual tradition in the historic hall.
The first set of this unique two band night will feature a newly formed local Gospel choir, led by Dr. Maurice Moncure and made up of singers from nearby historic church communities on the Northshore.
Presented by the Friends of the Dew Drop, this concert will run from 6:30pm-9pm and will feature home-cooked food for purchase provided by the Ladies of First Free Mission Baptist Church, located next door. Soft drinks, water, beer and wine will also be available for purchase.
Admission for each concert is $10 per adult. Students and children can enter free. No outside food or drinks are allowed and lawn chairs can be used outside the hall on the grounds. Please no pets allowed.
Built in 1895, the Dew Drop Jazz Hall, on Lamarque Street in Old Mandeville, is one of the oldest, unaltered rural jazz halls in the U.S. In 2006, the Friends of the Dew Drop, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, was formed to schedule and manage the hall’s performances and educational activities (JazzKids). Since 2015, the Friends of the Dew Drop have presented 53 free music assemblies and master classes to schools in St. Tammany Parish, reaching over 12,000 local students in grades PreK-12.
The mission of the Friends of the Dew Drop is to preserve the Dew Drop Jazz Hall and promote its significance in the origins and the cultural history of Mandeville though music performances, music education programs and benevolent activities in support of local, emerging artists.
