Portland International Airport Job Exploration & Orientation TourJoin us for an exciting and informative tour of Portland International Airport (PDX)!
Air travel can be stressful. But on this guided trip you will have opportunities to ask questions, learn about accessibility, and master the art of air travel.
This event is designed for students to explore the airport environment, gain valuable O&M skills, uncover potential job opportunities within the airport community, get a sneak peak in places at the airport that travelers don’t usually see, and learn about the different jobs that keep the airport up and running.
Highlights
✈️ Practice navigating crowded places, people movers, and O&M with a certified orientation and mobility instructor.
✈️ Power through security with an expert that works at the airport.
✈️ Learn about different jobs in the airport that you may not know exist.
✈️ Experience the technologies available to help individuals who are low-vision and blind travel independently.
✈️ Practice advocacy skills with support.
Though we won’t be boarding a flight, this event is your “Passport to the Possibilities" within the terminal walls.
PREPARE FOR THE TOUR
Please review and download this information on the Portland International Airport website before the tour.
✅ ACCESSIBILITY – From managing crowds to following directional signs, airports can be especially tricky to navigate. PDX offers tools to help people who are blind or visually impaired – and their service animals – move through the airport safely and confidently. To get the most of this experience, please download the accessibility apps from the PDX website.
✅ DINING – Lunch is NOT provided at this event. If you don’t bring your own lunch, you can discover local favorites with great street prices at PDX.
LOCATION
We will meet at the DSB office in Vancouver then drive to PDX. The group will leave the DSB office promptly at 9:15 a.m.
Due to space restrictions, DSB can only transport 11 students. If your family can arrange your own transportation, we encourage you to do so and meet the group at airport by 9:45 a.m.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Spaces are limited. Please register online by February 4, 2026.
All attendees are required to complete a waiver of liability. Participants 18 and older must present a valid government issued ID.
