'We live on the other side of your map; and we navigate by different stars'.About this Event
Boater is a funny, smart memoir of twenty years living on the UK's waterways, written by a former archaeologist with a deep understanding of canal culture in the present day, and the long history of life afloat. Jo Bell has travelled over 1000 miles on the waterways and lives on a narrow boat. Her book is a metahistory - a personal, witty and beautifully written account of life 'on the other side of the map'. It includes a broken heart, a tremendous journey on Britain's greatest river, and much information about the sex life of ducks. Join her for a reading and Q&A session here at Kemps.Jo Bell is one of the UK's best-loved poets, and the first Canal Laureate for the UK. Formerly the director of National Poetry Day, she was formerly an archaeologist working across the UK, Greece and Turkey.
