Squeek Steele is globally notorious for her wide-ranging expertise at the piano. Classically trained, she long ago branched out into musical styles like ragtime, honky-tonk, and traditional jazz, as well as composing soundtracks for documentaries, musicals and a folk opera.

She’s a sought-after entertainer, playing gigs (in every imaginable musical style) in Berlin, Singapore, Hong Kong, and all over the United States. Her recordings have been selling well for decades.

She’s also in the Guinness Book of World Records for “the most pieces of music performed from memory”. In 1988, in Philadelphia, she earned this record by playing many hours worth of tunes thrown at her by judges, including rock, classical, religious, world, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass and many other styles. Her record remains today.

Now a grandmother, she still plays steady professional gigs around her Nevada home. You can catch her act at The Bucket Of Blood Saloon in Virginia City nearly every summer weekend, when she’s not engaged in another state or country, or climbing another mountain — since turning 60, she’s climbed 11 of the highest mountains in the Western U.S., plus Kilimanjaro and up to the base camp of Mt. Everest.

Her many awards include a National Park Service Award for scoring a Grand Canyon hiking video. She’s played — and recorded — folksongs all over the world, including Nepal, Bali and Thailand, and still teaches piano lessons. Squeek began playing by ear as a child in her native Kentucky, and went on to receive a music degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, and a Master’s in music composition from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
