These talks are designed to inspire, educate and give photographers & filmmakers the chance to learn directly from experienced professionals, brand experts and leading creatives. Whether you’re looking to improve your technique, try new ideas or get more from your kit, each session offers practical advice you can take straight into your own photography.
Through the Lens of Change: A Life in Documentary Photography.
Join Jillian Edlestein for a compelling talk exploring how photography can become a powerful response to the world around us. In this session, Jillian will reflect on how witnessing an unjust, unfair and inhumane political system at work first led her into photography, and how that experience has continued to shape her work as a visual artist.
The talk will trace her creative and professional journey, from assisting and printing in the darkroom, to studying locally, working as a newspaper photographer and later studying at LCC, formerly LCP. While still a student, Jillian's work was noticed by the Sunday Times Photo Editor, leading to a job opportunity and the beginning of a wider photographic career.
Learn about the Wapping dispute that pushed her into freelance life in the UK, before building an international career across commissioned shoots, portraiture, personal projects and documentary work. A fascinating talk for anyone interested in documentary photography, portraiture, personal projects and the role photography can play in telling meaningful human stories.
