Jhana Allan at Maru Hifi
After the release of her predominantly indie-rock album ‘Fake Paradise’ in 2024, Allan’s new single ‘You Got The Eyes’ leans towards a laidback, groove-driven country feel, with mandolin and bass as the driving forces. The song has extra significance as it was the first on which Allan started working with her mentor Rachel Baiman. These two singles were produced by Baiman and recorded in Nashville with a group of stellar local musicians.
At the time Allan was writing ‘You Got The Eyes’, it was 2019 in the middle of the drought on Anewan (New England Region) country. She states “I was living in a small rural town, driving long distances and writing on the drives.” You Got The Eyes started out as a heart-broken country ballad, however after some workshopping with Baiman resulted in it becoming a song about Allan taking her power back, and ultimately recognising her own worth.
Jhana will be playing as a duo with bassist Tim Merrikin.
