Join us on Friday, June 28th from 11am-4pm for a chance to meet, as well as, see new work from Oreb Lram! Here is some insight into their story & process!
"I love trees. That's why I started making these back in 2004. I wanted to create realistically shaped trees in their perfectly imperfect forms. So many trees in jewelry and art are too perfect to be real, and I think it's the flaws that make us feel something.
I like making little forests one tree at a time.
A few years ago I expanded my scope to animals. I enjoy doing the animals to explore the variety. There are so many animals and there's someone who loves every animal. It's fun to see that connection and hear which animals I don't have that people want to see."
My process
I choose a design and cut blanks out of sheet metal to use for the project. Then I hand draw the design and cut it out using a jewelers saw, which is basically a tiny hack saw with a tiny blade that is so small I can't see the teeth. I wear two pair of glasses when I work on these, and I still can't see those teeth. I have to check by feel to make sure it's aiming the right way when I load the blades, which I do often because blades that small aren't very durable but small blades allow me to add the finest details. On average, one piece breaks about 4 blades.
If it's going to be a layered pendant, I then drill holes and cut rivets to connect the layers. The riveting process is done completely by hand, with the exception of the drill. I cut each rivet by hand with a saw, the length must be exactly right, then delicately install each one with small hammers. The rivets take at least as long as the design. Then there's the finishing work of filing and sanding and buffing.
On average it takes me 4 hours to finish a piece. Then it's time to make it into a finished necklace.
We are so excited to host this event & hope to see you there!
