Dans ce programme double où la comédie cède la place au drame humain, La voix humaine de Poulenc prend un sens quasi vériste, alors qu’une rupture amoureuse se trame à travers les propos banals d’un échange téléphonique. Dans ce monologue douloureux, une femme tente de parler à son amant et met doucement à nue sa tristesse et sa douleur d’être ainsi abandonnée, au téléphone. En première partie, un chanteur présente une sélection de mélodies françaises, où la légèreté s’oppose à la tragédie lyrique de la seconde partie. C’est ainsi que les airs d’opérette françaises s’harmonisent avec La voix humaine de Poulenc, lors de ce concert lyrique riche, audacieux et contrastant.

In this double bill in which the comedy gives way to human tragedy, Poulenc’s La voix humaine takes on an almost veristic meaning, as a broken relationship is woven through the mundane language of a telephone conversation. In this distressful monologue, a woman attempts to speak to her lover over the phone, slowly laying bare her sadness and pain at being abandoned. In the first half, a singer performs a selection of French mélodies, its levity juxtaposed against the lyrical tragedy of the second half. In this way, French operetta arias are brought into harmony with Poulenc’s La voix humaine in a rich, daring, and contrasting vocal concert.
