Jersey City Connects | Winter Hike (Jan) | Catskills

THE TRAIL

is a challenging hike in New York’s Catskill State Park, featuring forested trails, steady elevation gain, and ridgeline hiking along the Escarpment Trail. Hikers are rewarded with expansive summit views, while winter conditions often add snow and ice to the experience.

WINTER PACKING LIST

Here is what we recommend to wear on your winter hike:

Clothing Layers

For the base layers, please avoid cotton. Cotton can leave you feeling cold on the trail.

Required

• Base layer (merino wool recommended, loveMerino Tech)
• Mid layer (fleece or light puffer)
• Outer layer (windproof & water-resistant)
• Warm hat & gloves
• Merino wool socks Merino wool (e.g.,Darn Tough)
• Hiking boots (waterproof strongly recommended)
• Microspikes (here is an affordableAmazonone)

Optional but Recommended

• Gaiters (great for snow & slush)
• Trekking poles (helpful for balance)

• Personal first aid kit(leaders carry a group kit)
• Post-hike socks & sneakers(can be left in the van/car)

8:00 AM - Meet inside Le Cafe Coffee (444 Warren St)

8:15 AM - Depart for Catskills Park

10:15AM - Bathroom break atStewarts Shops

11:00 AM - Arrive attrailhead

5:00 PM - Finish hike(pace & conditions dependent)

5:30 PM - Dinner in Windham (Millrock,Pizza,DinerorWindham Local)

7:00PM - Head back to Jersey City

9:30PM - Arrive in Jersey City
